New England Culinary Institute recognizes that learning occurs within and beyond the classroom and that students acquire knowledge, skills, and attitudes through a variety of experiences and in a variety of settings. Many students choose to participate in field trips, on campus activities and guest lectures to supplement their education or enhance recreational pursuits. Student Services provides a broad program of sports, recreation, and fitness activities for students to enhance their personal lifestyle and improve the quality of life on the New England Culinary Institute Campus.
Recreation and leisure activities offered by Student Services focus on promoting the desires of students to seek and maintain a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Vermont is often ranked as one of the healthiest states in the nation, and the recreation and tourism industry is important to the state.
Vermont is home to some of the largest ski areas in New England. Ski and ride trips are popular and student season passes are competitively priced to the envy of everyone else who has to pay for a full price lift ticket! Snowshoeing and X-C skiing trips in nearby Hubbard Park, and skating on the campus green rink are all popular winter pursuits, while biking, fishing, kayaking, and hiking in the Green Mountain National Forest, are best suited for warmer months.
Student Services offers a broad range of activities within the campus community and in the greater Montpelier area to satisfy everyone’s interests. Whether it is a Palate Challenge or Karaoke Sing Off in the residence halls, a trip to a water park, or paintball facility, you will find your niche and make friends with those who have common interests.
NECI also sponsors the Food for Thought film series, lectures by established food service professionals, and field trips to local farms, food purveyors, and even to Boston and Montreal! If you come to us with an idea, we will work alongside you to help reach your extracurricular goals.
