Use these popular online databases to search for timely journal articles, newspaper articles, reference materials, and more.

NECI databases are restricted to students, faculty, staff and other New England Culinary Institute authorized individuals under the terms of license agreements established with the database vendors. Passwords will be needed for access outside of the Library.

  • Academic OneFile - Multiple subjects, includes scholarly journals and millions of articles in full text.

  • Biography in Context - Biographies & images of over 500,000 individuals. Many audio and video clips available.

  • Business & Company Resource Center - Corporate and industry information from periodical articles, news articles, and press releases. Includes company financials and earning estimates, as well as brand and product information.

  • Career Transitions - an online career guidance center that walks users through the job search process, including exploring career interests, creating a resume and cover letter, and searching for jobs online.

  • Computer Database - Computer-related product introductions, news and reviews in areas such as hardware, software, electronics, engineering, communications and the application of technology.

  • Credo Reference - An excellent starting point for basic information on a given topic. Results are gathered from encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies, and image libraries. The full text of food & beverage titles included are: Bender’s Dictionary of Nutrition and Food Technology, Dictionary of Food: International Cooking Terms From A to Z, The New Food Lover’s Companion, The New Wine Lover’s Companion, and Oddbins Dictionary of Wine.

  • Educator’s Reference Complete - Hundreds of full-text academic journals and reports, and many reference sources. The focus is on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education.

  • Expanded Academic ASAP - Peer-reviewed and full-text articles on a variety of topics.

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library - A database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

  • General Business File ASAP - Access to a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals and company directory listings with full text and images available.

  • General Reference Center Gold - General-interest articles from reference books, newspapers, magazines, and trade publications, on a wide variety of topics.

  • GreenFile - Information covering all aspects of the impact of humans on the environment. Scholarly, government and general-interest titles address topics like global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. Provides abstracts for more than 384,000 records and access to full text for more than 4,700 records.

  • Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module - Presents access to medical, statistical, health and related information from a wide variety of authoritative medical sources.

  • Hospitality and Tourism Index Complete - Look here for research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism. Contains more than 828,000 records, with coverage dating as far back as 1965. There is full text for many publications, including periodicals, company & country reports, and books.

  • InfoTrac Newsstand - Full-text newspaper database that contains a collection of more than 1,000 newspapers.

  • LegalTrac - "LegalTrac® provides indexing for more than 1,400 titles including major law reviews, legal newspapers, bar association journals and international legal journals."

  • Opposing Viewpoints in Context - Different viewpoints on hot-topic issues. Video, audio, photographs, and charts included.

  • Powerspeak Languages - Working through different modules at your own pace, learn Spanish, French, Mandarin, German, or ESL Spanish.

  • Professional Collection - Thousands of teaching and education articles from a variety of journals.

  • Reference USA - A directory of individuals and businesses in the United States. There are two modules available within Reference USA: U.S. Businesses – a database of 14 million U.S. businesses; contains data that’s updated monthly. Search for specific types of businesses and locate detailed information on similar companies and potential competitors. U.S. Consumers/Lifestyles – a database of over 203 million U.S. consumers; can be used for market research or simply to locate people. Records are continuously updated and searches can be done using a name, address, median home income, median home value, and more.

  • Small Business Resource Center - View sample business plans from bakeries, hotels & motels, restaurants and other foodservice venues. Read “How to…” articles on starting a small business, buying or selling a business, as well as financing, marketing, and growing your business.
