Use these popular online databases to search for timely journal articles, newspaper articles, reference materials, and more.

NECI databases are restricted to students, faculty, staff and other New England Culinary Institute authorized individuals under the terms of license agreements established with the database vendors. Passwords will be needed for access outside of the Library.

Credo Reference

 
  Search

Credo Reference is an excellent starting point for basic information on a given topic. Results are gathered from encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies, and image libraries. The full text of food and beverage titles being searched include:

  • Dictionary of Food: International Cooking Terms From A to Z
  • The New Food Lover’s Companion

EBSCOhost Research Databases

EBSCOhost Research databases

Two databases are available through EBSCOhost:

  • GreenFile – Provides well-researched information covering all aspects of the impact of humans on the environment. Scholarly, government and general-interest titles address topics like global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides abstracts for more than 384,000 records and access to full text for more than 4,700 records.
  • Hospitality and Tourism Index Complete – Look here for research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism. Contains more than 828,000 records, with coverage dating as far back as 1965. There is full text for many publications, including periodicals, company and country reports, and books.

VOL (Vermont Online Library) Databases

A fantastic resource for finding accurate information quickly, the VOL is a collection of over twenty databases covering many topics. Millions of articles are available — many in full text and with images — pulled from newspapers, reference books, magazines, scholarly journals, and trade publications. See the descriptions listed below each database for more specific details. New databases recently added to the VOL collection include:

  • Career Transitions – an online career guidance center that walks users through the job search process. From exploring your career interests to uploading and emailing your resume and cover letter, Career Transitions breaks the sometimes daunting task of job hunting into manageable steps.
  • PowerSpeak Languages – a fun and interactive way to pick up new language skills. Working through different modules at your own pace, learn Spanish, French, Mandarin, German, or English as a Second Language.
  • Small Business Resource Center – view sample business plans from bakeries, hotels and motels, restaurants and other foodservice venues. Read “How to…” articles on starting a small business, buying or selling a business, as well as financing, marketing, and growing your business.
