Emergency Pandemic Flu Plan

in

Parents of NECI Students,

With the growing concern over the H1N1 flu virus on campuses across the country we wanted to take a moment to keep you informed of how we are planning to minimize its impact at New England Culinary Institute and how we will proceed if an outbreak occurs.

NECI has an emergency plan in place that addresses what will be done in the event of an outbreak. A few significant points are:

  • If a student contracts flu-like symptoms, we have an online reporting mechanism to track how these students are doing and a means to follow through with needed support.

  • NECI has a plan in place to accommodate students with the flu on campus and, if the situation warrants, provide access to a quarantined space where we can provide bed checks, food and a quiet environment.

  • NECI will make provisions for both faculty and students to work from home for our non-production classes.

  • NECI will provide free seasonal flu vaccinations on the following dates:
    Tuesday, October 6 – Harris Hall meeting room 103: 8:45 a.m. -3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 20th – Harris Hall meeting room 103: 12 p.m.- 4:30p.m.

Information about the H1N1 vaccinations will be provided once we receive that information from authorities.

Since students sometimes communicate to parents and not to us (or vice versa), we would ask for your help:

  • If your student lets you know that they may have the flu, we have established an online communication site: incidentreporting@NECI.edu. Please send us an email message pertaining to your son or daughter's condition to assist us in accounting for students with the flu. If they are on campus we can check in with them and determine their needs.
  • When students registered for this term, they were asked to identify two different locations that they would travel to in case they required longer term care or in the unlikely event of a larger scale outbreak. Please make sure that you know what addresses they have provided us.
