Career Changers and Transfer Students

If you have been working in another profession but your love of food, hospitality, or cooking has grown to more than a hobby, take a new direction with New England Culinary Institute.

NECI students come from a broad range of backgrounds, countries, and nationalities. From recent high school graduates to seasoned professionals, our students share a common bond: a passion for food and the industry.

For those who are new to the profession, NECI’s small classes, hands-on education, and personal attention are the recipe for success. As a student, you will be immersed in real-life situations in our live production kitchens, where you will develop practical skills and gain industry knowledge while preparing delicious, nutritious food for real customers.

At New England Culinary Institute, we maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio in our live-production kitchens as well as in our traditional classrooms. While it is important to learn and develop practical culinary, baking, and hospitality skills, it is also important to develop your academic foundation, which includes math, writing, professional development and, depending upon your program, may include history and culture, economics, financial analysis, and more.

Our on-campus Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree programs begin with a well-rounded introduction which includes:

  • cooking theory and food science
  • information technology
  • professional development
  • college math
  • introduction to baking
  • table service and introduction to wines
  • sanitation and food safety, writing fundamentals
  • service learning

This unique, hands-on approach gives you an introductory exposure to the various aspects of the culinary, baking and pastry, food and beverage, and hospitality industries.
