The Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act (Public Law 101-542) requires all institutions of higher learning to make available to prospective students, enrolled students, and employees an annual summary of certain crimes committed on campus.
The Institute must report to the Federal Department of Education the number of crimes that occurred on campus, in student housing, in or on a non-campus building or property, and on public property. The reportable crimes are criminal homicide, sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson, and arrests for violations of drug laws and illegal weapons possession.
Institutions must also report criminal offenses of murder/non-negligent manslaughter, aggravated assault, all forcible sex offenses including forcible rape, arson, negligent manslaughter, and simple assault that occurred by evidence of prejudice based on race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or ethnicity (“hate crimes”) that took place on campus, non-campus, and/or public property.
In addition, the report includes statistics on persons not arrested but referred for campus disciplinary action for liquor, drug, and weapons law violations.
The most recent report submitted (October 2008) reported the following crimes for July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.
